Is Someone Trying to Tell You Something?

Hygiene is not a very easy topic to talk about for many people. No one wants to hear that they smell or have bad breath and no one wants to tell someone that they have this problem unless they are doing it to be mean and that hurts even more.

Hygiene is something that needs to be taken care of from the time you are born until the time you leave this life. It's a daily process. For some people it is a struggle, especially teens and young adults.

Personal hygiene can at times be frustrating for teens due to the fact that your bodies are changing so much during this time. Hormones play are large role. Your body is developing breasts, hips are starting to shape to give you your girlish figure, and your "little monthly visitor" has come. There are different products on the market that you can use to help this.

Bathing or showering daily during this time is very important. Look for a soap or body wash that is not drying to your skin and mixes with your body chemistry. Watch out for a lot of perfume in soaps or deodorant soaps because these can be drying to your skin and be sure to rinse off thoroughly because this can also cause dry and irritated skin. You do not have to use expensive soaps to be clean. Ivory bar soap is pure and usually does not bother most people. A few years ago I began using a shower soap by Suave. It is fairly inexpensive and you have your choice of scents. Again you need to watch which one fits your body chemistry. I use the melon one and love it but this is my preference.

I have noticed that I have used the phrase "body chemistry" several times. Some of you may not understand what it means. Body chemistry is how your body works with certain things. For example, I bought a shampoo, conditioner and hand lotion that had aloe and vitamin E. All of these were by Suave. In the bottle they seemed to smell okay and they were Suave products and the store was out of my kiwi shampoo and conditioner and melon lotion. After a few uses my head began itching and my hands, legs and back began to have an unwanted odor to them. I think it took a couple of weeks for me to figure out what it was. Although the brand was my brand, the mixture of these did not work for me. So as soon as I could I switched back to what I could use.

Dental hygiene is also very important. Some of you may be able to get away with brushing your teeth every morning or night while others need to brush several times during the day. This is very important for the health of your teeth. If you have to have braces, the care of your teeth at this time is even more important. Anything you put in your mouth can either help or damage your teeth. Even the lack of proper brushing can add to problems later on in life. Did you know that the amount of water you drink each day can help with keeping down the chances of gingivitis? Those of you who are diabetics or with a family history of diabetes need to be sure that you are drinking enough water daily.

That’s it for this month. As always if you have any questions don’t forget to ask me and I promise not to say who asked. I just need to know your age.
