What Guys Are Saying About Modesty

These are emails and excerpts from emails I've received from guys (posted here with permission). -Jen

"I'm not Mormon, but I really do prefer modest apparel over, well, not-so-modest apparel on girls to the extent, in fact, that I'm more likely to approach them. Is it because I don't think I can "get with" girls who dress explicitly? Quite the opposite. It's because modest clothes give me the impression that I can have a real conversation with a girl. When I see a girl in modest (but still cute) attire, I often see a girl who is more of a thinker and thus someone who is more interesting than the average girl."

~Alex, 19 years old, College Student in New York, and not your average Christian.

"I study interpersonal communication and I found out lots of neat things about the clothes we wear. The most astounding was that immodest clothing has a HUGE impact on relationships that are just beginning and when you meet somebody for the first time. All the stats showed that immodest clothing made people feel very uncomfortable, especially when females wore it. Even other girls were uncomfortable around them. The girls who wear revealing clothing are sacrificing a lot, even in relationships. They may be getting the exact opposite of what they are trying to achieve.

One of the things I really worry about is modesty and the youth... So many wear questionable clothing... It was so hard for me to deal with the unwanted visual stimulation while dating, and I still find it disturbing now at college."

And the Winner is...

Sarah Kator, of Meridian, Idaho!

Modest by Design Clothing Company has announced the winner of the 5th Annual “Modest Prom Dress Contest”. The winner is Sarah Kator, a senior at Mountain View High School in Meridian, Idaho!

Our Modest Prom Dress Contest has now become an international competition. The judges of the contest chose Sarah’s design from entries received from around the world. Her design, entitled “Luck Be a Lady,” features a black and white fitted striped satin bodice and short sleeves, with a full black satin skirt.

Entrants also submitted an essay entitled “Why I think it is important to dress modestly.” Half of their overall score came from the essay, and Sarah’s essay shined through. The last line of her essay reads “It is so much easier to act, feel, and be treated like a daughter of God when I already look the part.”

As the Grand Prize Winner of the contest, Sarah will receive the gown she designed, sewn by an expert seamstress just for her. She will also receive her accessories and shoes, a makeover and a photo shoot. Sarah will be surprised at School on Friday the 7th!

The runners-up are Natasha Beers of South Jordan, Utah; Shannon Sparks of Concord, North Carolina; Joy Hudspeth of Salina, Utah; and Kara Paisson of Tokyo, Japan!

The winners will be announced at the 3rd Annual “Modesty In Motion” Fashion Show. The Show will be at Thanksgiving Point in Lehi, Utah on January 8th at 12 noon and 2:30 pm, and will present the company’s 2005 Prom and Casuals lines. The winner’s design and essay will also be available to see on the companies web-site www.modestbydesign.com.

Reclaim The Rainbow!

The rainbow is a symbol (or token) representing the covenant God made with Noah where God promised to never again cover the Earth with a flood of water (Genesis Chapter 9). I've always loved rainbows and rainbow colored things. I used to play with Rainbow Brite dolls when I was little, though I liked Care Bears better.

Homosexuals have also adopted the rainbow as their symbol. I think it's interesting how Satan tries to take everything that's good and twist it into something bad. So I say "reclaim the rainbow!" Knowing that gay people use rainbows to let each other know they're gay, you might not want to wear rainbows. But I don't worry about that myself. I go on wearing rainbows because they represent something good to me.

Modest ClothingIt can be hard to live the way you know you should. Some people feel alone in their choices, with few if any good friends who share their beliefs. Others are surrounded by people with the same beliefs and struggle with feeling lost in the crowd.
