Examples and Ideas #3

The gloves and shawl gave this dress a really vintage look.

Melissa Filipek, Age 17, New Jersey

"I sent you a few photos from my prom last year, and thought I'd send in a few from this year. Last year I wore a burgundy dress I bought from Beautifully Modest, and this year I wore a yellow gown I bought from Eternity Store. This year I was the ONLY modestly dressed girl at the prom, and I got so many compliments from fellow students and teachers it was astounding. I hope these are helpful to other girls who think they cannot find a gorgeous modest gown!"

Vanessa Castillo, Belgium

"I found this dress at a garage sale for $35 and I decided to cut off the bottom and use that fabric to make sleeves. I used McCall's pattern 2401 as a guideline, but my mom and I made a lot of changes to it in order to make it work. I'm sooooo happy with how it turned out!!!! I learned so much by making it. I was so glad to be modest!!! I was comfortable, and I felt success in doing what was right, which made it so much more fun. I got a lot of compliments even from non-members, which just shows that modesty is always in style if you decide it will be.

For anyone that is thinking about adding sleeves to a dress, here are a few things I learned: When you're looking at patterns, pay attention to the sleeves, make sure that the hole for your arm will not go below the top of your dress, the sewing teacher at my school pointed this out to me and I'm so glad she did. Also, be sure to make a few samples before you cut into the dress, it's better to ruin an old sheet, than the fabric from your dress. I used other modest dresses as examples, so I would know how to make mine, this helped a lot. And last of all, Pray!!!! I'm sure that Heavenly Father played a huge part in making this dress turn out!"

Kasey Nelson, Age 16, Illinois

"I went to my Senior Prom last year, and after searching high and low for a modest prom dress, I finally found one at Far West Boutique, a modest formal dress shop for LDS girls. Modest dresses are just the way to go. I'm proud that I can show my pictures from Prom to younger girls and be an example to them from making the excellent choice of choosing a modest prom dress."

Kinsey Carter, Age 18, Washington

"It was hard being the only girl on the Homecoming court in a modest gown. But I was glad that I was. So many people got to see that you don't have to dress immodest when you wear a formal."

Keela Hill, Age 17, Mississippi

"This is me and my date at our last prom! I was so excited when I was asked to my first prom, but I was terrified of the dress shopping experience! Luckily, I was fortunate to find a modest dress for really cheap!!"

Amanda Willets, Age 18, Arizona

"This is the dress I wore last year. I was about the only modest girl there. I felt really good about myself and didn't embarrass the guy. It was the perfect dress."

Christina Lewis, Age 16, Alabama

Examples and Ideas #2

"This is a photo of my boyfriend and I at our Junior prom. I bought my dress off of Beautifully Modest, and although I was only one of two modestly dressed girls out of hundreds, it felt wonderful to know I was pleasing the Lord with my dress. :)"

Vanessa Castillo, Age 17

"I was lucky enough to go on my first date to our school's Prom about a month after my 16th birthday. My oldest sister had found this beatiful dress and it had been passed down to me. I was very excited to wear it, I felt like Cinderella! Even in a town that is about 90% LDS, I was sad to see how many immodest fashions there were at my prom. I was happy to be one of those that were modest, and I still felt beautiful!"

April Whatcott, Age 16, Salem UT

"This is a picture of my boyfriend and I at prom last year. I got this dress at Bliss in the ZCMI mall in Salt Lake. I absolutely loved it! Not only was it modest...but absolutely adorable."

Micah Ross, Age 17, Casper WY

"Here is my prom dress from my Junior year. I found it online at Great Lengths since I live in a small town and there really isn't stores or other places I could go to in order to find a modest dress. I'm soo thankful I was able to find this dress and wear it to prom because modesty is important to me and I was able to show the girls in my ward that you can be beautiful in a modest dress. The girls in my ward just loved my prom pictures...they said I looked like princess."

Kira Gilleo, Age 17, Kingman AZ

"This is the dress I wore to the ball/prom last year. My mum sewed it for me."

Alyssa, Age 15, Hamilton, NZ
