What’s In That Stuff?

by Jen on January 23, 2005

I use natural skin and hair products. I think natural stuff created by Heavenly Father will always turn out to be better in the end. But it’s not just my theory, it’s proven that chemicals and synthetic ingredients can be very bad for your skin as well as the rest of your body. Normally, the word “natural” on a product’s label means nothing. When I say natural, I’m talking about ingredients that when I read the label I know what they are. You really have to read the label!

Why should you care what you’re putting on your skin? Your skin actually absorbs chemicals and things that touch it. Don’t believe it? Just think about all of those “patches” they sell, like the nicotine patches and the birth control patch. Your body is absorbing the stuff right from the patch. In fact, up to 60% of the products we use on our skin are absorbed and deposited into the blood stream! They say that the average woman will absorb 30 pounds of the ingredients contained in moisturizers over sixty years. That’s gross when you look at what’s in your average moisturizer. The stuff can cause cancer.

Also, most everyone who wears anything on their lips ends up eating it. I’ve read that the average woman eats around 6 pounds of lipstick in her lifetime! Find something in your kitchen that weighs 6 pounds or several things that add up to six pounds to see just how much lipstick that is. It makes me fat just thinking about it. So you better make sure that your lip stuff is made with ingredients you wouldn’t mind eating. -Jen

I like the idea of using natural stuff to improve yourself–and I have been looking and haven’t really been able to find anything. Do you have any product ideas, like shampoo, conditioner, and face wash? What natural stuff do you use?

Good question! Several other people have asked me that too. The next beauty article that I’m writing right now will answer your question. I should be done with it in a day or two.

I really like Burts Bees products. Everything is at least 95% natural (meaning growing in nature) and the rest is stuff like vitamin E. They have a great website http://www.burtsbees.com that can tell you more about what they use and why. I have very sensative skin and their products have always made my skin feel really healthy and their chapstick is the best ever! Check it out.

Burt’s Bees has great products! I’ve tried their lip products and make-up – great stuff!
Another recommendation is Yves Rocher – a French line of botanical products! Good value and also some great free gifts check it out at http://www.yvesrocherusa.com I’ve been using their skin care, make-up etc…for over 8 years now! It really makes a difference!
Hope this helps!

Thank you for telling your readers this. I try so hard to spread the word about this! The company I am with also omits mineral oil and petroleum from their products because of what it does to your skin and health. Bleck!
